Le mardi gras

Mardi gras est une fête catholique qui marque, en apothéose, la fin de la « semaine des sept jours gras » autrefois appelés jours charnels. Cette période pendant laquelle on festoyait précède le mercredi des Cendres marquant le début du Carême. De nombreux carnavals ont lieu le Mardi gras.
En Europe, la baisse des pratiques religieuses d'abstinence durant le Carême a rendu les festivités des jours gras bien moins intenses. Aux États-Unis, à la Nouvelle-Orléans, Mardi gras est une fête très importante et réputée.

คำว่า Mardi ความหมายแท้จริงคือ วันของเดือนมีนาคม และวันที่สามของสัปดาห์ ซึ่งหมายถึงวันอังคาร คำว่า gras แปลว่าเต็มไปด้วยไขมัน เมื่อ Mardi-Gras มาอยู่ด้วยกัน หมายถึง วันอังคารที่รับประทานอาหารมากๆ วันมาร์ติกรา คือวันอังคารก่อนวันเข้าพรรษา ( le carême ) วันเข้าพรรษาหรือ le carême เริ่มต้นวันที่ 4 ของสัปดาห์ คือวันพุธเนื่องจากสมัยก่อนผู้คนเคร่งครัดศาสนา ในช่วงเวลา 40 วัน ซึ่งเป็นช่วงเข้าพรรษาคริสต์ศาสนิกชนจะอดอาหารเพราะฉะนั้นก่อนที่จะอดอาหารถึง 40 วันนี้จึงมีการรับประทานอาหารกันอย่างอิ่มหนำสำราญวัน Mardi-Gras ควรจะอยู่ในเดือนมีนาคม แต่โดยมากจะอยู่ปลายเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ วัน Mardi-Gras ไม่นับเป็นวันหยุดราชการของฝรั่งเศส

Death of Diana, Princess of Wales

On 31 August 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales died as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident in the Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris, France. Her companion, Dodi Fayed and driver, Henri Paul, were also pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Fayed's bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, was the only survivor. An eighteen-month French judicial investigation concluded in 1999 that the car crash that killed Diana was caused by Paul, who lost control of the car at high speed while intoxicated and under the influence of antidepressants.

Since February 1998, Dodi's father, Mohamed Al-Fayed (the owner of the Hôtel Ritz, for which Paul worked) has claimed that the crash was a result of a conspiracy, and later contended that the crash was orchestrated by MI6 on the instructions of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His claims that the crash was a result of a conspiracy were dismissed by a French judicial investigation, and Operation Paget, a Metropolitan police inquiry that concluded in 2006.

An inquest headed by Lord Justice Scott Baker into the deaths of Diana and Dodi began at the Royal Courts of Justice, London on 2 October 2007 and was a continuation of the original inquest that began in 2004. A jury decided on 7 April 2008 that Diana had been unlawfully killed by the grossly negligent driving of chauffeur Henri Paul and paparazzi photographers.
